Ski School

SKI LESSONS IN LES GETS:
Ski lessons are booked directly by Chalet Perdu guests with their choice of operator. Each ski school offers a different approach and our staff are always happy to give you advice.

A FEW THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:
Ability – don’t worry about children or adults being in different groups, it’s better that everyone is comfortable at their own level and that no one feels held back or intimidated by friends in the party.

Class size – the smaller the ratio of pupil to teacher the better, so consider private lessons especially if there are more than 3 children/adults – this can be a similar price to group lessons. Some classes at Xmas, New Year, February & March may have up to 16 pupils!

Private vs Group Lessons – a one or two-hour private lesson can achieve much more than a couple of group sessions. If a child or adult is nervous, a supplementary private lesson can give heaps of individual confidence. Group lessons are a fantastic way of making new friends. Different languages are not an issue, we have 3 British ski schools with English instructors, when booking with a French ski school check that you are booking in an English group with an English-speaking instructor. Advanced Adults/teenagers – At whatever level you ski at, there is always room for improvement. Children – ‘freerides’ at www.skischool.co.uk ‘teenage adventure’ at www.britishskischool.com/les_gets/courses.htm ‘competition class’ ESF.

Off Piste – guides and instructors are available from all ski schools.

Mums – Expect etiquette on the mountain and you will find it. Don’t be rushed, the lift attendants will slow the lifts down for women and children and they appreciate a thank you and a smile. Treat yourself to a one on one ski lesson while the children are in ski school – there are new techniques and new equipment for women – check that you are wearing a woman fit boot and if you like to be well dressed at home, feel good on the slopes too – the ski shops in Les Gets are excellent and there are plenty of very stylish and technically advanced clothing and accessories available in Les Gets – the new fabrics are equally at home, on the golf course or playing tennis!

Budget: The costs vary greatly, and the British ski schools are the most desired in France, they have native English instructors and smaller groups are catered for. For peak weeks, be sure to book far in advance. All bookings are made online and paid in advance.

LOCATION OF SKI SCHOOLS – LES GETS:

Meeting Point

All ski schools meet at the Chavannes Express lift, which is 100m from Chalet Perdu. You will be given instructions on how to find your instructor. Each ski school has its own uniform and all the instructors have radio communication. Beginners are able to access the mountain ski areas for the first few days using the small tele cabin, which is located beside the Chavannes lift. The tele cabin takes you straight to the nursery area – there is a magic carpet and playpark for small children (pedestrians can access this area to supervise children).

Drop-off Point

Ski school normally finishes at the tele cabin exit beside the magic carpet area, please ensure you check this with the instructor each time. If you are waiting for children or friends returning from ski school, there are restaurants and sun chairs to enjoy a drink located at this point. La Croix Blanche (0033 450 758066) is good to book for the first few days if there are beginners or children – book a table inside so that you can get warmed up and ready for the afternoon. Beginners can normally ski all the way back to the village by the end of the first week but will use the tele cabin until confident skiing blue runs. There is an excellent treelined green run ‘Piste 64’ accessed by a drag lift at the tele cabin exit and ending at the tele cabin.

Lesson Times

There is a choice from morning, mid-morning or afternoon lessons. There are 2, 3 & 4-hour lessons available. Lessons start promptly so try to arrive at the meeting point 10minutes in advance. There is a Ski Fun shop which Chalet Perdu guests use to hire and store their skis in, this is located 15m from the lift and ski school meeting point.

Lift Passes

Check that everyone has a valid lift pass before ski school and ensure this is stored safely – Les Gets operates a hands free electronic lift system – store the credit card in a zipped pocket on the cuff or trouser pocket and it will be scanned as you walk through.
