Madrid, tapas and the skiing connection

Daniel Martinez Cazon lives in Madrid and is a chef at 2* Michelin Ramon Freixa restaurant. On Saturday I flew to Madrid to spend time with Dani and his beautiful partner Carla before they joined me at Chalet Perdu for the ski season. Definately had to fit in some fabulous shopping too, purchased a grey crocodile Michael Kors handbag and just have to get back there quickly. What a place to shop, boots, boots and more glamorous boots and clothes and more clothes , Max Mara, Prada. Gucci basically everyname in the fashion world in one area. Easy to walk around, the Serranno and the linking streets were alive with eleganty dressed Madrid shoppers making me wish I had a arrived with a completely empty suitcase.Wandered over to the Salamanca area and could not resist some lamps from the serious stylish interior shops. Food, what a place. On Dani & Carlas recommendation we had probably the best tapas in Madrid in Laterals about a 5 minute walk from Serano, marinated slices of tuna on tomato chutney was my favourite. The next recommendation on Sunday night was Juana La Loca in the Latina district, an easy tube ride from the Seranno, thin slices of fillet steak and poached quails eggs did it for me but how on earth can you choose when teh enormous menu of 50 selections was so good.
Dani has also worked in El Serbal 1* Michelin in Santander and recommended Santander as a weekend destination for food lovers so maybe thats another trip
